DN Van Lines Qualifies as FMC Licensed Ocean Freight Forwarder

FMC License

Expanding Our International Horizons

Janet Turner, Director of Corporate Relocation, received a letter from Aline Hull, Director – Office of Ocean Transportation Intermediaries of the US Federal Maritime Commission on April 19, 2021 granting DN Van Lines the  Ocean Transportation Intermediary (OTI) License, officially making DN Van Lines an Ocean Freight Forwarder.  Any company that holds itself out to the public offering to engage in the international ocean transport and forwarding of household goods and personal effects must be a holder of this license.

Part of the licensing requirement is that an officer of the company must be designated as the Qualifying Individual who has a minimum of 3 years of active experience in the Ocean Transportation Intermediary business.  Janet Turner easily meets this qualification requirement.  Janet founded WISEnterprises NJ in 1992, a freight forwarding company that provided moving and relocation-related services to corporate clients and industry partners worldwide.  WISEnterprises succeeded for decades under Ms. Turner’s leadership. In 2014, Ms. Turner merged her business with Accelerated Forwarders, a global moving services provider in Ft. Wayne Indiana where she worked on the development of an innovative domestic small shipment program for the growing market trend toward flexible corporate relocation benefit programs, among other projects.

“Meeting the US Federal Maritime Commission’s licensing requirements is an important milestone for DN Van Lines.  As we expand our service offerings in the international market, our customers can be assured that we are compliant, qualified, capable and competitive.”  said Janet.

The mission of the FMC is to promote a competitive ocean transportation industry that operates with integrity for the benefit of American industry and consumers.  Licensed OTIs are required to provide proof of financial responsibility, in this case $50,000, which serves as an important safeguard for moving customers.  This is provided by way of a bond secured through an FMC-approved surety company.

“The licensing requirements are strict for a reason – to protect the moving consumer.” said Oded Carmi, President of DN Van Lines.  “As we expand our international service offerings to our customers who have come to rely on us for local and long-distance moving services in the United States, we are proud to joint the ranks of professional, qualified FMC-compliant companies in the US.”

“The International Association of Movers actively encourages their members to seek US FMC compliance as they expand their international forwarding activities.  We congratulate DN Van Lines on this achievement and look forward to Mr. Oded Carmi’s continued engagement as an IAM Board Member in enhancing the moving public’s perception of the professional moving industry.” said Chuck White, President of the International Association of Movers, the largest global trade association representing the moving industry.
